"We want to especially build a national tactical network, but this is a long process," he said at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Offices in Jakarta, Monday.
Plate made the statement after a Ministerial Plenary Session on Safe, Independent Network, led by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD.
He admitted that research needed to be done and there needed to be coordination between Ministries and Agencies in order to prepare for a safe and independent telecommunication network.
Such a process, he said, includes making it a government policy in the national medium-term development plan (RPJMN) or in the form of other programs.
"This is just the first stage of discussion. The planning phase is still being arranged because this is a long-term and strategic one," he said.
He explained that the telecommunications network is divided into two. The first one is related to defense and security, and the second one is related to government and operational services.
Ideally, he continued, the telecommunications network would be self-made to be independent and truly secure.
"If we were not able to create the network ourselves then how do we maintain safety and state security? It must be regulated properly," he said.
