"We have sent 6,000 packages of basic necessities according to the number of (affected-) families," Chief of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono said while inspecting a landslide-hit area in Sukajaya along with Bogor District Head Ade Yasin on Sunday.
The president had originally been planned to hand out the basic necessities to landslide victims. But because of extreme weather the helicopter carrying the president and Minister of Public Works and People's Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, National Defense Forces (TNI) Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, and Chief of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Doni Monardo failed to land in the area.
"So we represent Mr. President to hand out the basic necessities," Hartono said.
The president also appealed to officers in the field to give priority to the evacuation of victims and ensure the availability of foods and drinks for the victims, he said.
"On behalf of Mr. President we express gratitude to the ranks and files of the police and military. Thank you Mrs. District Head who has helped the victims of this natural disaster. Mr. President also offered condolences over the residents killed in the disaster," he said.
