Chief of the West Jakarta Police Crime Unit Police Commissioner Teuku Arsya remarked that the five witnesses were employees of the convenience store located in the collapsed building.
"The employees are being questioned as witnesses. There are five people," he noted in Jakarta on Monday.
The owner and tenants of the four-story building were reportedly outside the city when the incident took place.
As earlier reported, a four-story building collapsed on Brigjen Katamso Street in Kota Bambu Selatan, Palmerah, West Jakarta, on Monday morning.
Part of the building served as a convenience store/mini market.
At around 9:15 a.m. local time, the building's top and second floors caved in, while the ground floor that served as a minimarket was not completely destroyed. Several vehicles were observed to be crushed by the rubble.
A total of 11 people were affected when the building caved in and were successfully evacuated and taken to the Tarakan Regional Hospital and Pelni Hospital Jakarta.
