The floods were triggered by incessant heavy rains that caused the Cisanggarung River to overflow its banks, Dadang Suhendra, acting head of the Cirebon disaster mitigation office (BPBD), stated here on Monday.
Some 10 thousand local villagers were affected by the flooding, but only 120 people, mostly seniors and children, were evacuated to higher ground.
The floods subsided in the afternoon, and the local residents began cleaning their homes.
In Babakan Losari Lor Village, Pabedlan Sub-district, the floodwaters reached heights of between 60 and 80 centimeters, according to Cirebon City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Syahduddi.
