"Based on the latest communication, including with the Japanese ambassador, it was confirmed that three out of the 78 Indonesian ship crew have been infected with the coronavirus," Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi stated in Jakarta, Tuesday.
With additional three cases of Indonesian nationals, the total number of cases testing positive for COVID-19 on the cruise ship currently reaches 446.
Two out of the three infected Indonesian nationals have been taken to a hospital in the city of China, while the other one is in the process of heading to health facilities.
"At the moment, I cannot disclose which hospital the remaining one Indonesian national is being taken to," Marsudi remarked while referring to dynamic developments in the situation.
As per this morning, a team from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo has arrived in China to ensure Indonesian nationals are receiving the best possible treatment from Japanese authorities.
Concurrently, the embassy has maintained close communication with the remaining Indonesian crew members aboard the cruise ship.
The Diamond Princess cruise ship members have been quarantined at the Yokohama Beach from February 5 over the spread of COVID-19 there.
