During the raid conducted on Tuesday night, four suspects were detained, one of whom was a police officer.
"During a raid conducted on a car, 10 packets (10 kg) of crystal methamphetamine and six packets of ecstasy pills, or some 60 thousand pills were found," Deputy BNN in charge of Eradication Inspector General Arman Depari noted in a statement here on Wednesday morning.
The suspects were identified by their initials as RZ, RRP, HS, and RRH, a police officer.
The National BNN Team conducted the raid after receiving a tip-off on the smuggling of narcotics from Malaysia into Indonesia by sea to Dumai, Riau Province.
The drugs were intended to be circulated in Dumai and Pekanbaru.
The BNN highlighted that Riau Province is one of the areas most vulnerable to the smuggling of drugs from Malaysia into Indonesia aboard small vessels.
The illicit drugs were usually transferred to another vessel in the middle of the sea that then entered Indonesia through small islands along the eastern coastline of Sumatra. The number of drug users in the region is relatively high, especially in Pekanbaru City. Related news: Jakarta police nab ex-Malaysian model for smuggling crystal meth
