Pekalongan, C Java (ANTARA) - Floods, triggered by torrential rains, claimed one life and compelled 818 others to evacuate to higher ground in the Central Java city of Pekalongan on Thursday.

The flooding affected several parts of the city, including Sampangan, Kauman Ledok, Krapyak, Bugisan, Kali Loji, Bandengan, Poncol, and Kraton, with the floodwaters reaching20-50 centimeters in depth.

By 9 a.m. local time on Thursday, the weather in the city was overcast along with drizzle.

Spokesman for the Pekalongan City Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) Saminta stated that the rains lashing since Wednesday evening until Thursday morning inundated most parts of the city.
