The skipper of KLM Cahaya Bahari tried to escape after officers on the police patrol boat fired three warning shots, said Maluku Provincial Police Spokesman Sen.Coms. M. Roem Ohoirat here on Tuesday.
The police gave chase and forced the skipper to take the boat to the beach at Simi Village in Wamsisi Subdistrict, Buru District, Maluku Province. Upon landing at the beach, the skipper and two crew members tried to escape into nearby woods, said the spokesman.
The skipper, identified as Jainal, was arrested, but the crew members remain at large. The boat was impounded, he said adding, the vessel was headed to Baubau Pasar Wajo in Southeast Sulawesi Province from Luhu in Seram Bagian Barat District, Maluku.
Jainal, aged 56, told police about the cyanide packed in 50 jerry cans, he stated. (INE)
