Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has arrested a Malaysian-flagged fishing boat for poaching in Malacca Strait.

"Following the arrest of a foreign fishing boat yesterday, another Malaysian fishing vessel was again paralyzed by the ministry's officers on March 13, 2020," Minister Edhy Prabowo said in a press release here on Sunday.

MV PKFB 422 was arrested by Hiu 04 patrol boat while conducting illegal fishing activities at WPP-NRI 571- Malacca Strait. The vessel was caught at 03 ° 38.955 ' northern latitude-100 ° 15.021' eastern longitude.

The vessels operating using trawl fishing equipment were manned by five Myanmar nationals.

With the latest arrest of the Malaysian flagged fishing boat, a total of 17 foreign fishing vessels have so far been arrested for illegal fishing activities in the Indonesian waters since October 2019.

Ot the 17 foreign boats, eight are Vietnamese-flagged vessels, four Philippine-flagged boats and five Malaysian-flagged boats.
