Jakarta (ANTARA) - The G20 extraordinary videoconference meeting, March 26, mirrors global leadership in handling the coronavirus crisis that has impacted over 100 nations and infected over 500 thousand people this month, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi stated.

"President of Indonesia (Joko Widodo) just attended the G20 virtual meeting and shared his views with world leaders on the global response for COVID-19. The meeting was followed by not only leaders of member states but also international organizations and other countries," Marsudi stated, citing the meeting "proves G20's global leadership amid the crisis".

Global leadership was apparent from the sense of solidarity and cooperation among world leaders.

"In the leaders’ statement, world leaders called for joint actions to reduce disruptions in global trade and global supply chain," she expounded.

Strong cooperation is critical amid the crisis, as the COVID-19 pandemic has sent across messages to world leaders that all countries are united and vulnerable to the disease, Marsudi noted.

Hence, in the leaders’ statement of the G20 extraordinary meeting, cooperation among member states became even more critical.

Apart from strengthening collaboration among member states, the meeting also called for solidarity, mainly for least developed countries that are also direly affected by the pandemic.

"The secretary general of the United Nations (António Guterres) said developing countries and least developed countries have a capacity gap in handling the health crisis," she remarked.

During the meeting, President Widodo also highlighted the significance of cooperation and solidarity, the minister reaffirmed.

"The final output of the meeting is a leaders' statement that comprises the four issues of efforts on fighting against the pandemic, safeguarding global economy, addressing trade disruption, and strengthening global partnership," she explained.
