We call on the public to be disciplined for the sake of our health.Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Some 11 other patients under surveillance died of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in South Tangerang City, Banten, with 25 reported on Monday, thereby bringing the total death toll to 36, the city's public relations service stated.
The city administration also reported the death of a COVID-19 positive patient on Monday, from 10 the day before.
In total, 434 people under surveillance and 160 patients under surveillance for COVID-19 were recorded in the city as of Monday. Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 patients recovering from the virus remained unchanged at 18.
South Tangerang Mayor Airin Rachmi Diany has urged residents to adhere to the physical distancing policy for the sake of the people's security and safety, including to ensure a healthy life within their kin.
Diany had announced earlier that the COVID-19 emergency response period had been extended until May 29, 2020, in accordance with the central government's decision.
The mayor cited the public's low awareness of the government's call to avoid crowds, including those at restaurants, as the reason behind the coronavirus outbreak in the city.
"The number of cases continue to increase at any point in time owing to our low awareness. We call on the public to be disciplined for the sake of our health," she remarked.
South Tangerang, located on the southwest outskirts of Jakarta, is one of the cities in Indonesia, with high number of COVID-19 cases.
