Pontianak, W Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Three patients under surveillance (PDPs) in the West Kalimantan provincial capital of Pontianak died of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), according to the city health office.

"The three patients under surveillance were treated at Soedarso General Hospital in Pontianak," Head of the City Health Office Sidiq Handanu stated on Friday.

The figure has brought the province's coronavirus death toll to five in the past 24 hours, with the two other deaths being from Kubu Raya District.

"The patients include those of Pontianak and Kubu Raya and whose bodies were buried in accordance with the COVID-19 standard operating procedure this morning," he remarked.

Handanu noted that the Pontianak city government will prepare houses to quarantine people and PDPs for COVID-19 in the city.

"The quarantine houses will serve as isolation places for people and patients under surveillance for COVID-19," he revealed,

Handanu stated that the city administration plans to turn a three-story flat in Nipah Kuning, West Pontianak Sub-district, into quarantine houses as a precautionary measure against a spike in the number of people and PDPs for COVID-19 in the city.

The flat, which was originally earmarked for state apparatuses of the Pontianak city administration, has a total of 68 rooms, each of which is equipped with three beds and a kitchen.

He stated that all people and PDPs for COVID-19 will be offered intensive treatment at the quarantine house.
