Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - Papua Governor Lukas Enembe departed from Jayapura aboard a Batik Air flight bound for Jakarta on early Tuesday to undergo routine medical checkups, according to his private doctor.

"He left for Jakarta to undergo routine annual medical checkups that had once been postponed," Dr Anto Mole confirmed.

The doctor confirmed that the governor was in sound health, adding that he had recently led a meeting with officials of the Papua provincial government.

Mole, concurrently president director of the Abepura General Hospital, noted that the governor had travelled to Jakarta along with his family.

The governor and his family travelled to Jakarta aboard a regular flight and had bought tickets according to the number of seats.

The Papua administration has restricted the frequency of flights from and to Papua as a precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19
