Majalengka, West Java (ANTARA) - Incessant torrential rains lashing Majalengka District, West Java Province, on Tuesday (Apr 14), triggered flooding in several locations that claimed the life of a motorcyclist.

"Flooding on Tuesday night claimed one life," Reza Permana, head of the Emergency Section of the local Disaster Management Office (BPBD) of Majalengka, stated here on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Aryo, a resident of Pasir Pandai Block, Ujungjaya Village, Sumedang District.

Aryo was riding a motorcycle with a friend, but they were suddenly hit by flash flood and swept away by the current.

"The victim attempted to brave the flooded road. However, owing to the strong current, he fell down and was swept away by the strong current, while his friend survived," he stated.

The floodwaters, reaching a height of up to 50 centimeters, also inundated several houses in Palasah Village, Kertajati Sub-district, Majalengka.
