Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some 71 operators of industrial areas have applied for the industrial operation and mobility (IOMKI) permit with the Industry Ministry, Director General of Industry Resilience, Zoning, and International Access of the ministry Doddy Rahadi stated.

"Industrial areas could still continue integrated industrial activities, such as plant operation, office administration, as well as activities related to raw material, supporting material, finished goods production, and workers’ activity," Rahadi noted in a statement here on Tuesday.

In accordance with Industry Minister’s Circular Letter No. 7 of 2020, industrial areas are included on the list of sectors that can continue operations during the health emergency period of the coronavirus disease to meet the public demand.

Rahadi pointed out that the industry has become a vital economic sector for Indonesia, as it has significantly contributed to the state revenue through investment, export, and tax. It has also played a crucial role in absorbing workforce.

However, despite the permit to continue operations during the emergency situation owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, factories must adhere to the health protocol as stipulated in the Industry Minister’s Circular Letter No. 4 of 2020 on the Operation of Factories during the Emergency Period of the Coronavirus Disease.

"As the industry minister has said, industries that fail to comply with the regulation, for instance, pertaining to the health protocol, we will impose sanction on them or revoke the operation permit (IOMKI)," he explained.

The ministry has held discussions with all stakeholders pertaining to the operation of factories and industrial areas during the implementation of the large-scale social restriction (PSBB) measure.

The ministry's virtual meeting with the Home Affairs Ministry and the provincial administrations of Jakarta, West Java, Banten, Central Java, and East Java covered discussions on the operation and mobility of industrial activities during the PSBB, especially the mechanism of surveillance.

Rahadi revealed that the Industry Ministry will deploy a team to help local administrations in monitoring the implementation of the health protocol.

"The key is the implementation of the health protocol. We support the synergy to monitor this," he added.
