Meulaboh, Aceh (ANTARA) - Unremitting torrential rains caused the Meureubo River to overflow its banks and inundate 11 villages in three sub-districts in West Aceh District since Friday evening.

Villages impacted by the flooding were Alue Tampak, Jambu Pasie, Padang Mancang, and Keude Aron in the sub-district of Kaway XVI; Ceukok Marek, Blang Berandang, Leuhan, and Gampa in Johan Pahlawan Sub-district; and Pasie Masjid Village, Pasi Pinang, and Aceh Pasie in Meureubo Sub-district.

"High-intensity rains caused the Meuruebo River to overflow its banks and inundate the residents' settlements," Haslinda Juwita of the Aceh Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBA) stated here on Saturday.

Several flood victims in the 11 villages were compelled to evacuate to safer places, while many others chose to stay in their water-logged homes.
