They may make rice withdrawal of two kilograms each once a week.
Semarang (ANTARA) - Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) has provided a "rice ATM" -- an automated machine dispensing rice -- for its students in Semarang that were unable to return home owing to the government's rules amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The "rice ATM" is located at the college's Student Center Building, as a facility supported by the Scholarship Foundation of Undip Alumni, Vice Rector Budi Setiyono stated here on Tuesday.

Setiyono noted that Undip had gathered its students that could avail this facility. The students were given an ATM card against which they may each receive two kilograms of rice during withdrawal once a week.

By and large, 2,200 students in Undip were unable to make it to the Ramadan exodus owing to the COVID-19 outbreak, but only some 900 are in need of free rice.

"The rest said they are still able to independently meet their daily requirements," Setiyono noted, adding that the university projected this measure can help its students to survive in these times of hardship. Related news: Students, universities cope with challenges as classes move online
