In imposing sanctions, the police always refer to persuasive, preventive, and repressive approaches.Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Police have imposed sanctions on 5,757 people for violating large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) in Makassar City and Gowa District, South Sulawesi Province.
During the implementation of PSBB in the two regions, police is performing its duties in accordance with its main task and function, chief of the Public Relations Division of the South Sulawesi Provincial Police, Senior Commissioner Ibrahim Tompo, said here on Tuesday.
"In imposing sanctions, the police always refer to persuasive, preventive, and repressive approaches," he said.
He said 3,423 of the violators have received oral warnings, and 263 have been given written warnings.
Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto approved the implementation of PSBB in Makassar as part of efforts to step up response to the novel coronavirus disease.
“The Makassar Mayor had earlier proposed the imposition of PSBB in the city, and based on the evaluation of our technical team, PSBB can be implemented there," Terawan noted in a statement issued recently.
The minister signed Ministerial Decree No. HK.01.07/Menkes/257/2020 on the imposition of PSBB in Makassar on April 16, 2020.
PSBB can be imposed in a region at the approval of the Health Minister. It is effective for a period of 14 days and can be extended if the authorities still find cases of virus transmissions in the region.
