Luhut in his social media account here on Sunday has called on people, especially Muslims who celebrate the Eid al-Fitr to support each others in the wake of the pandemic.
"For my Muslim brothers and sisters, the difficult situation we have experienced now is the right momentum to strengthen our bonds of brotherhood by caring others, and supporting each others. Because only by mutual reinforcing can we address this pandemic that had hit the country," Luhut said.
The minister has also called on the public to apply physical distancing, maintaining health, and wearing mask as part of effort to avoid COVID-19 transmission.
"By maintaining physical distancing, especially maintaining health, and don't forget to wear mask. In this blessed day, I, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan convey my heartfelt Eid al-Fitr greetings. Forgive all our faults," he said.
Muslims around the world began marking a sombre Eid al-Fitr Sunday, many under coronavirus lockdown.
Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD has called on Muslims across the nation to perform the Idul Fitri 1441 Hijri prayer at home.
"During the COVID-19 pandemic, let us perform the Eid al-Fitr prayer and conduct the halal bi halal (post-Eid al-Fitr gathering) at home, with a limited number of people," Mahfud MD stated in Jakarta on Friday (May 22).
The minister remarked that other Islamic organizations, including the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Muhammadiyah, and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), have made the call to people to pray at home.
President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo performed Eid-al-Fitr prayers in front of Bayurini guesthouse in the vicinity of Presidential Palace in Bogor City, West Java, on Sunday morning.
