Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati called on the Indonesian people to be able to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in the midst of the unusual Eid Al-Fitr 1441 Hijri celebration.

"The current fasting month is not an ordinary one, and Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr this year are unusual ones," she said in her personal Instagram account @smindrawati in Jakarta on Sunday.

Sri Mulyani said that in Ramadhan this year, people must be able to fight not only hunger and thirst but also fear and lust to do things that can endanger themselves and others.

"Not only do we overcome hunger and thirst but also fight fear and lust to do something that endangers our body and soul during the pandemic," the minister said.

Sri Mulyani said that even though this year's Eid was unusual because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it still provided the same essence, which was to worship to get closer to God.

"We have just ended the month-long Ramadan worship. We have been carrying out a worship service that aims to bring ourselves closer to the Creator," she said.

Sri Mulyani did not forget to thank the ranks and files of the Ministry of Finance for their hard work to maintain competence and integrity even if they could not meet with their families to celebrate Eid-al-Fitr.

"I would like to express my gratitude to the ranks and files of the Ministry of Finance who at this difficult time continue to carry out their duties to maintain their competence and integrity," the minister said.

She stated that although "We did not meet physically, we did not reduce the ties of friendship, compassion, and bridges of relationships between people".

Sri Mulyani also did not forget to remind the ranks and files of the Ministry of Finance in particular and all Indonesian people in general to maintain their and their families' health in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We do not meet physically but we do not reduce friendship, compassion, and bridge our relationships as brothers and humans. Please, continue to take care of your health and protect your family, " the minister said.
