Jakarta (ANTARA) - Fire broke out in 26 homes in Pegangsaan, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday morning supposedly due to an electrical short circuit.

"It is most likely caused by an electrical short circuit. However, thank Allah, it is over. The firefighters are in the process of dousing the fire," Coordinator of RT 006 RW 003 Pegangsaan Hartono stated here on Monday.

A total of 33 families comprising 120 people were displaced due to the blaze.

As many as 20 fire brigade trucks were deployed to put out the fire in the densely populated area in Pegangsaan.

"We received information from the public at 5:10 WIB, and we immediately mobilized trucks from the Proclamation Monument Post located in proximity to the area," Central Jakarta Fire Brigade officer Sunaryo remarked.

The fire broke out in a residential area on Jalan Proklamasi RT 004 RW003 Pegangsaan at around 5 a.m. local time.

Head of the Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service Office, Asril Rizal, stated that the fire was fully extinguished.
