Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) ended higher on Friday evening after plunging the day before amid the Jakarta provincial government's decision on total re-imposition of large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), effective from September 14, 2020.



The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) gained 125.25 points, or 2.56 percent, to reach 5,016.71, while the index of the 45 most liquid stocks (LQ45) rose 22.2 points, or 2.94 percent, to reach 778.32.



“The IHSG rebounded today owing to the conducive domestic situation following the Jakarta provincial government's announcement on total re-imposition of PSBB. On the other hand, the market better appreciated various stimulus policies and (shared the) optimism about the prospect of global COVID-19 vaccine research. Therefore, investors were accumulating on buying stocks,” Bina Artha Sekuritas analyst M. Nafan Aji Gusta Utama stated on Friday.



After opening lower, the IHSG came under pressure in early trade, but managed to return to the green territory before the first trade session ended. In the second session, the IHSG remained in the positive territory until the close of trade.



On a sectoral basis, the shares of all sectors rose, with the consumer sector witnessing the highest rise of 3.95 percent, followed by the mining sector at 3.73 percent, and the property sector at 3.65 percent.



Friday's trade also witnessed net sales of foreign investors reaching Rp2.26 trillion.



According to trade data, 945,222 transactions were recorded on Friday, with 14.24 billion shares, valued at Rp14 trillion, changing hands. A total of 299 shares climbed, 158 shares fell, and 119 shares remained unchanged.



In regional markets on Friday evening, the Nikkei Index rose 171.02 points, or 0.74 percent, to 23,406.49; the Hang Seng Index jumped 189.77 points, or 0.78 percent, to 24,503.31; and the Straits Times Index weakened 2.51 points, or 0.1 percent, to reach 2,489.58. (INE)
