Jakarta (ANTARA) - Wisma Atlet Hospital for COVID-19 has so far discharged a total of 13,757 patients recovering from the novel coronavirus disease since the emergency hospital was set up on March 23, 2020.

"The hospital has recorded a total of 16,501 COVID-19 patients, and 13,757 of them have recovered during the March 23 - September 20 2020 period," Colonel Aris Mudian, the hospital's spokesman, said in a press statement here on Sunday.

The Jakarta-based hospital has referred a total of 292 patients to other hospitals so far, and recorded six patients succumbing to the disease, and one patient exited without permission.

The hospital initially occupied only Towers 6 and 7 to treat COVID-19 patients at the Wisma Atlet, which was build to accommodate Asian athletes participating in the 18th Asian Games co-hosted by Jakarta and Palembang, South Sumatra, in 2018.

Starting from Sept 15, 2020, the hospital also used Tower 5 for isolation of asymptomatic patients. As of Sept 20, the Tower 5 has accommodated a total of 1,727 patients, and 525 of them have been discharged.

The hospital treated 2,296 COVID-19 patients on Sunday.

"The number of inpatients at Wisma Atlet Hospital is 2,296 people, comprising 1,107 men and 1,189 women," he said.

Meanwhile, the Special Hospital for COVID-19 Infection on Galang Island, Batam, Riau Islands Province, currently treated 288 patients, including 211 patients testing positive for COVID-19.

The number of suspects reached 77, a decrease of seven from the previous data released by the hospital.

Galang Island Hospital received 12 new patients in the last 24 hours.

Since the Galang hospital was operational on April 12, 2020, it has recorded a total of 2,650 patients, including 633 patients recovering. The hospital has discharged a total of 1,946 suspects completing the quarantine period, No COVID-19 patient has succumbed to the disease so far.
