The BPBD DKI Jakarta (the Jakarta Provincial Disaster Mitigation Agency) reported that 15 people had fled their homes after several areas were flooded since Monday night (Sept 21). Officers have readied evacuee posts in the affected areas.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Rains lashing through the night flooded 49 neighborhood associations (RTs) in Jakarta on Tuesday morning, Chief of the Data, Information, and Communication Center of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Raditya Jati stated.

"The BPBD DKI Jakarta (the Jakarta Provincial Disaster Mitigation Agency) reported that 15 people had fled their homes after several areas were flooded since Monday night (Sept 21). Officers have readied evacuee posts in the affected areas," he noted in a press statement released here on Tuesday.

Jati noted that the floods affected 23 RTs in East Jakarta, with floodwaters ranging from 10 centimeters (cm) to 100 cm in height and 14 RTs in West Jakarta, with floodwaters scaling heights of between 10 cm and 100 cm.

Floods additionally hit 10 RTs in South Jakarta, with floodwaters reaching 10 cm to 40 cm in height; one RT in North Jakarta, with floodwaters ranging from 20 cm to 50 cm in height; and one RT in Central Jakarta, with floodwaters reaching a height of 20 cm.

"Four evacuee posts have been readied, including the Mushola (Mosque) Riyadhul Saadah in Kembangan Utara, PT Delta Laras Wisata in RW (community unit) 07 in Rawajati, Rawajati public health service post 2 in RW 07 in Rawajati, and the yard of RW 07 official house in Rawajati," he remarked.

By Tuesday morning, some areas in West Jakarta, including those in the sub-districts of Palmerah, Kebon Jeruk, Grogol, Kembangan, and Cengkareng, were still inundated.

Most areas in Cengkareng Sub-district were inundated, with floodwaters reaching heights of between 10 cm and 30 cm.

Floods in Jakarta were caused by moderate- to high-intensity rains on Monday night. The rains fell in and around Jakarta.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast the capital to continue to experience low-intensity rains.
