"This morning, we held a row call on flood disaster response, with the participants comprising personnel of the Jakarta Provincial Police, TNI, and Jakarta provincial government. We strengthen cohesiveness and work hand-in-hand to support one another and ensure that the capital city is well-protected," Baswedan remarked at the Jakarta Metro Jaya Police Headquarters here on Wednesday.
The governor emphasized the need for stepping up vigilance and responsiveness as well as enhancing existing strengths as crucial precautionary measures against flooding.
Jakarta’s geographical location makes it prone to flooding since it lies in a lowland area through which 13 rivers flow. Hence, three threats looming large over Jakarta during the rainy season are the rainwater arising from upstream areas, particularly Bogor; the local rains; and its sea level that is a cause for concern.
"We will all work unitedly as a precautionary measure against all possibilities during this rainy season," he remarked.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that most of Indonesia will experience the rainy season in October 2020 that will last until May 2021. Related news: Govt bolsters surveillance system in wake of pandemic, flooding
