"When we observe the developments in commodity prices in September, in general, (the prices) declined," BPS Chief Suhariyanto noted during a press conference here on Thursday.
With the deflation, the calendar inflation during the period from January to September 2020 stood at 0.89 percent, while the year-on-year inflation reached 1.42 percent.

The BPS noted that 56 of the 90 cities surveyed for the consumer price index recorded deflation, while 34 recorded inflation in September 2020.
As such, the national economy experienced deflation for the third consecutive month in September 2020. The country had posted a deflation of 0.10 percent in July and 0.05 percent in August 2020.
The deflation was caused by a decline in the prices of various commodities, especially volatile goods and services, such as foodstuffs and air tickets.
