Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin extended his congratulations on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and sought its unwavering support to the government in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I wish happy birthday to all members of the TNI, wherever you are on duty. I am optimistic that during the current COVID-19 pandemic, the TNI can continue to demonstrate its dedication to break the chain of transmission of COVID-19," Vice President Amin noted in a statement received in Jakarta, Monday.

The vice president urged the TNI to continue to alert health personnel from all forces -- the army, navy, and air force -- while ensuring that communities across regions apply health protocols.

"Measures encompass alerting health personnel from the three forces, tightening security at state borders, assisting in implementing and policing health protocols, and ensuring and monitoring the flow of logistics to the community, so that they do not experience problems," he expounded.

During the 75th anniversary, Amin is optimistic that the TNI would boost professionalism of institutions and apparatus resources, especially in maintaining defense and security of the Indonesian territory on land, at sea, and in air.

TNI’s services for Indonesian citizens, especially in the border and remote areas, should be stepped up to protect, accompany, and protect the community.

At the global level, Amin is also optimistic of the TNI continually contributing to realize global peace, including by joining the United Nations (UN) peace mission.

"In the international arena, the TNI has participated in realizing world peace by joining the UN peacekeeping mission. That role, from time to time, has been lauded by various parties both at home and abroad," he pointed out.

TNI’s 75th anniversary celebrations were held virtually from the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday morning at 9 a.m. WIB in which the participants comprised President Joko Widodo, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, and TNI Commander Marshal TNI Hadi Tjahjanto.
