Residents of Cilacap and the adjoining areas are urged to stay vigilant of high rainfall, Teguh Wardoyo of the Cilacap meteorology station stated here on Thursday.
"During the October-November period, high rainfall is forecast owing to a moderate La Nina event. Hence, some areas, including Cilacap and its surrounding areas, are expected to record high precipitation. Hence, there is still a likelihood of receiving above normal or more than average rainfall," he stated.
Extreme rains will be received if the 100-millimeter rain mark is crossed in a day, while heavy rains will be experienced if between 50 and 100 millimeters of rainfall occurs in a day.
Rainy season peaks in the October-November period for the southern part of Cilacap and southern coast of Cilacap.
Meanwhile, the December-January period is the peak of the rainy season for the western part of Cilacap, northern Cilacap, central Cilacap, and Banyumas Regency and its adjoining areas.
"Hence, people in the southern part of Cilacap and the southern coast are advised to be wary of the possibility of extreme weather in October-November, although it is just entering the rainy season. This is because of the influence of a weak La Nina event earlier that is now developing into a moderate one. Hence, rainfall is projected to be above normal or above average," he added.
