I am ready to sign a gubernatorial letter in response to their aspirations.
Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Governor of Yogyakarta Special Province Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X pledged to acquaint President Joko Widodo of the aspirations of workers rejecting the newly endorsed job creation law.

"I am ready to sign a gubernatorial letter in response to their aspirations," Sultan HB X remarked after receiving representatives of workers here on Thursday.

The governor noted that before the representatives of workers met him, the council of workers' representatives in Yogyakarta Special Province had written a letter to him bearing some aspirations.

Apart from responses to the job creation law, Sultan HB X noted at the meeting that he had also discussed several issues with the representatives of workers, including cash direct assistance, since all workers had yet to receive it.

The other issue pertained to efforts to promote workers' welfare through corporation activities that the employers could conduct, he stated.

"Those are the aspirations that I can facilitate," he noted.

It was reported earlier that several elements of the community, including workers and students, took to the street in Yogyakarta City on Thursday to reject the job creation law. They marched from the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Roundabout to the Yogyakarta Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD).

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) passed a job creation bill into law on Monday night (Oct 5). The law has sparked widespread demonstrations in Indonesian cities, including Jakarta, Semarang, and Bandung.
