Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said the recovery rate for COVID-19 patients in Indonesia has increased to 82.84 percent, which is higher than the global average of 72 percent.

Besides, the country’s COVID-19 case rate currently stands at 13.78 percent, which is lower than the world average of 25.22 percent, Widodo informed while chairing a plenary cabinet meeting here on Monday.

Alhamdulillah, as of November 1, 2020, the active case (rate) of COVID-19 that we have is at 13.78 percent, the world’s average is 25.22 percent. This (active cases) is what we have to suppress, so that we can reduce (the rate) further from 13.78,” he observed.

He said he was also grateful for the improved recovery rate of 82.84 percent, even as the global average stands at 72 percent. The rate must continue to improve in the future, he remarked.

“What is still above the world average is the death rate, or death cases (in Indonesia). We are still at 3.38 percent. The world average is at 2.5 percent. This deserves our attention,” he said.

The President urged his staff to be vigilant and careful about COVID-19.

The Head of State also asked all his staff to regulate and maintain a balance between efforts aimed at COVID-19 handling and economic recovery.

"This is what I have conveyed dozens of times, and I need to emphasize it once again," he reiterated.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Indonesia has recorded 412,784 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 13,943 deaths, and 341,942 recoveries.

Jokowi announced the country's first COVID-19 cases on March 2, 2020. Coronavirus infections first emerged from Wuhan, China in late 2019.
