Cianjur, W Java (ANTARA) - The Cianjur District Health Office in West Java confirmed on Wednesday that 37 students from two Islamic boarding schools have tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“As many as 37 students have tested positive for COVID-19 after taking rapid and swab tests, or RT-PCR. Of the total, 35 are students of an Islamic boarding school in Cugenang sub-district and two are students of an Islamic boarding school in Cipanas sub-district," spokesperson for the Cianjur District Information and Coordination Center for COVID-19, Yusman Faisal, said here on Wednesday.

The students are currently self-isolating in the dormitories of the Islamic boarding schools, he informed.

So far, 170 students of the Islamic boarding school in Cugenang have undergone swab tests and are awaiting their results. They are currently under quarantine, Faisal said.

If they test negative for the virus, they will be sent home, he added.

However, if they test positive for the virus, they will conduct self isolation at the Islamic boarding school, he continued.

“Those who test positive are staying in separate rooms, and those who are waiting for the results of swab tests are conducting self isolation in one room with separate beds. If the 170 students test negative, they will be sent home,” he informed.

The cluster of COVID-19 transmission at the Islamic boarding schools was first identified in Cugenang, where 35 students tested positive for the virus.
