Jakarta now has 4.1 million cars so it needs 550 emissions tests workshops. In addition, with the number of motorcycles reaching 14 million, we need more 1,400 emissions test spots
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Environment Office has set itself the target of licensing 550 emissions test spots both in the form of workshops and kiosks until the end of 2020.

Jakarta now has 268 emissions test spots, Chief of the Jakarta Environment Office Andono Warih said here on Saturday.

However, the number is far from ideal to provide emissions tests services to an estimated 4.1 million four wheel vehicles in the capital, he said.

"Our target is relevant to the number of motor vehicles. Jakarta now has 4.1 million cars so it needs 550 emissions tests workshops. In addition, with the number of motorcycles reaching 14 million, we need more 1,400 emissions test spots. That is the ideal target," he said.

He said the office has made a swift effort to provide emissions test spots in sufficient numbers by, among others, providing coaching to 300 technicians of emissions test workshops last month.

The technicians came from 17 authorized workshops of sole agents (ATPM) and other workshops, he said.

"The coaching aims to increase the number of technicians capable of conducting emissions tests. They will be assigned to emissions test workshops, kiosks, and emissions test service vehicles," he said.

The technicians will receive certificates and account of emissions tests after taking part in the coaching.. Hence, the workshops that employ them will automatically be registered to conduct emissions tests.

"As many as 242 workshops have been registered in the system and the accounts of other 26 workshops are being made," he said.
