Jakarta (ANTARA) - Gojek co-CEOs Andre Soelistyo and Kevin Aluwi on Friday refuted recent merger rumors with Grab.

In an internal letter to employees, they said the rumor is inaccurate.

“We have addressed this many times and our position remains the same. Speculation on this topic is and continues to be inaccurate and we should all try to avoid engaging with it,” Andre and Kevin told Gojek employees in the leaked letter, a copy of which was obtained by ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday.

Both Andre and Kevin assured employees that Gojek has always been in a strong position and that has allowed the company to make decisions based on what is best for the business and for their mission.

They added that Gojek is well-capitalized and has enough room to continue to operate and grow its business for years to come.

“As such, there is no pressing reason for us to make the sort of deal being referred to in the media,” Andre clarified.

In the letter, they reiterated that Gojek is the largest tech company in Indonesia with a strong presence in multiple markets. Gojek has full support from world class investors such as Google, Tencent, Facebook, Paypal, Astra, as well as their latest investor Telkomsel, they pointed out.

“Our investor list is the envy of every other pre-IPO company in the world,” Kevin stated.

Furthermore, they said, Gojek’s business performance has been amazing despite the challenges that 2020 has thrown, with over US$12 billion of transaction value moving through the ecosystem.

At the same time, with multiple products now hitting profitability, Gojek is on a path to long-term business sustainability, they said.

According to the two leaders, Gojek continues to maintain a solid lead in Indonesia and with its recently-unified app and brand, it is ready to further grow its presence across Southeast Asia.

In addition, Gojek’s strong financial position is the result of its focus on driving growth through product and service leadership rather than being overly dependent on cash burn, they pointed out.
