Jakarta (ANTARA) - The duration and congregations that attend the Christmas Mass in person at the Jakarta Cathedral are limited to lower the risk of transmission of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

"The congregation is limited to 20 percent of the capacity, which is 309 people, and the time of worship is at most for 60 minutes," Jakarta Cathedral Church spokesperson Susyana Suwadie stated at the Jakarta Cathedral on Friday.

"A total of 200 congregants attend the Christmas Mass at the church and 109 congregants at Plaza Maria," Suwadie stated.

Suwadie explained that the face-to-face Christmas Masses can only be attended by family members of the Jakarta Cathedral Church Parish, aged between 18 years and 59 years and who had earlier registered online.

Only congregants, who have registered and possess a QR Code, may attend the face-to-face Christmas Mass at the Jakarta Cathedral Church.

Congregations arriving at the venue are also subject to temperature checks before entering the church and are urged to keep their distance during the Mass.

Suwadie confirmed that those involved in organizing the Christmas Mass at the Jakarta Cathedral Church had undergone a health checkup.

"All officers and priests have been examined through an antigen swab test. The congregation members are not tested for antigen but urged to ensure their own health before attending the Christmas Mass," Suwadie stated.

The Jakarta Cathedral Church holds three Christmas Masses, one mass broadcast online and two face-to-face mass.

The Christmas Mass broadcast online is held at 9:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), while face-to-face Christmas Mass is held at 11:00 WIB and 17:00 WIB.
