Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned fertilizer company PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) Group again clocked the highest production in the history of the Indonesian fertilizer industry by producing 12.25 million tons in 2020.

The materialized production was 117 percent of the 2020 production target at 10.47 million tons, Production Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia, Bob Indiarto, stated here on Tuesday.

In the last three successive years, the company's total production had exceeded its annual targets and hit the highest record.

The rise in production is attributed to the operation of a new urea factory in Gresik that began commercializing since 2018 and the new NPK factory in Palembang since 2020.

"Furthermore, it is owing to the success of the Pupuk Indonesia Group in maintaining factory reliability, so that production performance can meet domestic demand," he asserted.

The total production in 2020 comprised 7,983,042 tons of urea, 3,014,077 tons of NPK, 451,972 tons of SP-36, 795,930 tons of ZA, and 9,655 tons of ZK.

The success is also due to the application of manufacturing excellence and Digital Fertilizer that helped to boost the efficiency of raw material and maintenance costs and reliability in addition to reducing shutdown rates at factories.

The company produced six million tons of ammonia, equivalent to 121 percent of the targeted 4.96 million tons. Other productions comprised sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid, respectively amounting to 853,112 tons and 218,883 tons.

"Production growth was also experienced by the company's non-fertilizer products that reached 7,084,992 tons, or 119 percent of the target," he stated.

Indiarto lauded the performance of the five fertilizer producers that have maintained their annual productivity to support the national food security program.

The five producers are PT Pupuk Kujang, PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, PT Petrokimia Gresik, PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda, and PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang.

"This achievement is thanks to the hard work of the Pupuk Indonesia Group personnel, who always maintain the factory, so that it can operate optimally at a fairly high rate despite the challenges of the pandemic throughout 2020," he affirmed.
