"When I arrived in Pasir Panjang village in Rinca Island, I watched the Komodo dance by Animal Pop (a local dance group), which is an icon for the village, that may boost its potential for tourism," Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, said during a visit to Labuan Bajo on Friday.
He underscored the necessity of tourism villages involving locals, saying the program should provide jobs for them. Furthermore, a tourism village should be able to empower people as it is aimed to drive economic activity, he added.
Uno made an official visit to Labuan Bajo, an entry gate to the Komodo National Park on Thursday and Friday, his first in the area since his appointment by President Joko Widodo.
During the visit, he encouraged the local community as well as tourism sector businesses and creative economies in Labuan Bajo to discuss the region's potential value. (INE)
