"Currently, the waters have receded at all points of flooding. As many as 463 homes were submerged in two sub-districts, as the Batang Suliti and and Batang Pangian rivers overflowed their banks," South Solok BPBD Head Richi Amran was quoted as saying by Head of the Emergency Section Romi Aprijal here on Tuesday.
The sub-districts impacted by the flooding were Sangir Balai Janggo and Sungai Pagu. The floodwaters reached a height of up to a meter, he noted.
The floods were triggered by incessant heavy rains that had lashed since Monday.
In Nagari Lubuk Malako Village, Sangir Jujuan Sub-district, a 22-meter-long primary irrigation channel for paddy fields collapsed, potentially damaging 315 hectares of rice fields in Nagari Lubuk Malako and Bidar Alam.
Meanwhile, floods submerged 2,470 homes in six villages, Lengayang Sub-district, South Pesisir District, West Sumatra, as the Batang Kambang River overflowed its bank.
"Flooding also damaged three houses and a bridge," Hendrajoni, the South Pesisir District head, noted on Saturday.
The six affected villages were Kambang, North Kambang, East Kambang, West Kambang, East Lakitan, and Central Lakitan.
Hendrajono undertook a visit to the flood-affected areas and distributed over eight tons of rice and various other necessities, such as kitchen equipment, baby essentials, toiletries, and prayer essentials.
The South Pesisir district head reminded local residents to remain vigilant during the ongoing rainy season, as rainfall continued.
