Jayapura (ANTARA) - Private Roy Vebrianto, a member of the Indonesian military's Yonif 400/BR, died of a gunshot wound following a shootout with members of an armed criminal group (KKB) in Papua Province on Friday.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mitra Masyarakat Hospital in Timika Sub-district, Mimika District, Papua, after being evacuated by helicopter, Col. CZI IGN Suriastawa, spokesman of regional joint command Kogabwilhan III, stated here on Friday.

"Currently, the body is still in Timika, and based on the reports that (we have) received, the shootout is still ongoing between members of Yonif 400/BR and KKB," Suriasta remarked.

Earlier, two members of Yonif 400/BR were also killed during shootouts with the armed criminal group members in Papua. The fallen soldiers were Private Firdaus, who died on November 7, 2020, and Private Agus Kurniawan, who lost his life on January 11, 2021.
