Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia reported 9,994 new COVID-19 cases during a 24-hour span, ending Monday afternoon, bringing the total tally to 999,256 since the pandemic hit the country in March last year, the COVID-19 Response Task Force stated.

The task force also reported 10,678 new recoveries, bringing the total count to 809,488 as of Monday.

With the addition of 297 people dying of the infection, the total death toll from COVID-19 climbed to 28,132.

The number of specimens examined in the past 24 hours reached 51,906, while the number of suspected COVID-19 cases stood at 84,621.

Provinces reporting the highest number of new cases on Wednesday include Jakarta, with 2,451 cases, followed by 2,022 in West Java, 1,513 in Central Java, 888 in East Java, and 606 in South Sulawesi.

Jakarta registered the largest number of daily recoveries at 2,504, followed by 2,371 in Central Java, 1,231 in West Java, 842 in East Java, and 535 in South Sulawesi.

The highest cumulative count of confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded in Jakarta, at 252,266; followed by 127,398 in West Java; 116,526 in Central Java; and 107,050 in East Java.

Jakarta has until now registered the highest number of total recoveries, at 223,804; followed by 103,572 in West Java; 91,784 in East Java; and 75,030 in Central Java. Meanwhile, the highest cumulative number of deaths had been recorded in East Java, at 7,440; followed by 5,018 in Central Java; 4,031 in Jakarta; 1,519 in West Java; and 946 in East Kalimantan.
