If you ask: Will (the investment target of) Rp900 trillion be achieved? We have achieved Rp826 trillion (of the target). It is not difficult to attract some Rp70 trillion more. I think it is a realistic figure to achieve.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, is optimistic investment realization will hit a record Rp900 trillion this year.

“If you ask: Will (the investment target of) Rp900 trillion be achieved? We have achieved Rp826 trillion (of the target). It is not difficult to attract some Rp70 trillion more. I think it is a realistic figure to achieve,” he said during an online dialogue on ‘Challenge and optimism about investment in 2021’ here on Wednesday.

The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) announced earlier the realization of investment last year reached Rp826.3 trillion, outstripping the government-set target of Rp817.2 trillion.

He said he believed the investment target of Rp900 trillion for 2021 could be achieved owing to a number of economic transformation programs, including the development of downstream industries.

"The program of downstream industries we started six years ago has a significant impact now," Pandjaitan said.

He disclosed several investment plans of great value in the mineral downstream industry to support the development of the electric car battery industry. Mineral derivatives from the mineral downstream industry could be processed into a variety of products of high value, he said.

President Joko Widodo had earlier asked BKPM chief Bahlil Lahadalia to ensure investment realization hits a record Rp900 trillion in 2021. The figure is far above the investment target of Rp855.8 trillion for 2021.
