Jakarta (ANTARA) - North Kalimantan Governor Zainal Arifin Paliwang and deputy, Yansen TP, took the oath of office in the presence of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday.

Before taking the oath of office, the pair obtained President Jokowi's letter No.19/P/2020, dated Feb 9, 2021, that contained the approval for their inauguration as North Kalimantan's governor and deputy governor for the 2021-2024 leadership term.

The Paliwang-Yansen TP pair secured most of the votes in Indonesia's simultaneous regional elections held on Dec 9, 2020.

Pocketing 145,778 votes, Paliwang and Yansen won the election against their rivals -- Irianto Lambrie-Irwan Sabri, and Udin Hiangio-Undunsyah -- who secured 109,968 and 62,142 votes respectively.

President Jokowi and Vice President Amin also bore witness to the inauguration of North Sulawesi Province's new governor and deputy governor, Olly Dondokambey and Steven OE Kandouw.

In accordance with the application of stringent health protocols, merely 20 guests attended the inauguration comprising cabinet members that included Home Minister Tito Karnavian and State Secretary Minister Pratikno.
