Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - No less than 22 people died after a bus plummeted into a 20-meter-deep ravine in West Java's Sumedang District on Wednesday.

All bodies were taken to the Wado public health service post (piuskemas) and Sumedang regional general hospital (RSUD) for autopsy, chief of the operation and standby section of the West Java Search and Rescue (SAR) Office Supriyono stated on early Thursday.

By early Thursday, rescue workers were still attempting to retrieve four other bodies from the ill-fated bus, Supriyono noted.

"We are making all-out efforts to pull out the four bodies believed to have been trapped in the bus," he remarked.

The bus overturned after it tumbled into the ravine.

The driver is believed to have lost control of the bus while it was plying along a long stretch of descending road and then plunged into the ravine.
