The minister conveyed this in response to an accident involving a tourism bus transporting students of the Lingga Kencana Vocational High School in Subang District, West Java Province.
Uno stated in Jakarta on Monday that his ministry had been in coordination with the Transportation Ministry, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, and other relevant actors to continue to intensify the dissemination of information to the public on the preparedness of tourism transport and drivers.
"We will continue to carry out the dissemination," he remarked.
The minister affirmed that all transportation and tourism facilities must possess fit and proper certificates issued by the Ministry of Transportation, so that Indonesia's tourism ecosystem can improve in terms of comfort and safety.
"We will make the country's tourism and creative economy sectors cleaner, healthier, safer, and more environmentally-friendly," he affirmed.
Earlier, on Saturday (May 11) evening, pupils and teachers of Depok-based Lingga Kencana Vocational High School traveling on a graduation trip met with a fatal road accident in Palasari Village, Ciater Sub-district, Subang.
The braking mechanism of the tourism bus allegedly malfunctioned, thereby causing it to overturn and resulted in some of its passengers being thrown onto the road.
The accident that also involved a minibus and two motorbikers resulted in the deaths of 10 students and a teacher as well as injured 40 people.
In the wake of the accident, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology urged schools to always prioritize the safety of their students in every learning activity.
"The ministry encourages local governments and education units to prioritize students' safety in all forms of learning activities," acting head of the ministry's Bureau of Cooperation and Public Relations, Anang Ristanto, told ANTARA here on Sunday (May 12).
