Building contractors must pay attention to the quality (of jobs) and environmental issues through green constructionBengkulu (ANTARA) - Regional Representative Council (DPD) Chief A. A. La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti has called on building contractors to accord priority to the quality of jobs and be sentient of their impact on the environment.
Mattalitti made the statement in response to several infrastructure and housing projects planned to be built this year in East Java Province. The projects, which are the government's priority projects, will cost an estimated Rp139.07 trillion.
"Building contractors must pay attention to the quality (of jobs) and environmental issues through green construction. Do not allow them to have a detrimental effect on the environment, including floods," Mattalitti noted here on Saturday.
During his visit to Bengkulu, Mattalitti was accompanied by DPD members, including Ahmad Kanedi and Eni Khairani from the Bengkulu electoral district or constituency, Sylviana Murni from the Jakarta constituency, Evita Apita Mata from the West Nusa Tenggara constituency, Bustami Zainuddin from the Lampung constituency, and Fachrul Razi from the Aceh constituency.
The environmental issue must draw serious attention since infrastructure projects, including roads and bridges, will be related to water sources, he noted.
If building contractors disregard the impact of the projects on the environment, it will cause environmental damage, including floods, Mattalitti stated.
"Development is not a pragmatic issue to merely provide facility but it must also pay attention to the aspects of security and environment near the development projects," he affirmed.
