The suspect is an illegal rifle traderMalang, E Java (ANTARA) - Indonesian Police’s anti-terror squad, Densus 88, has arrested one man suspected of selling illegally-made homemade rifles in Malang district of East Java.
Spokesperson for East Java Police, Senior Commissioner Pol. Gatot Repli Handoko, on Thursday confirmed the arrest, but did not provide details on whether the suspect, identified by his initials as AR, has links with any terror network.
"The arrest by Densus 88 is true. But the investigation is still ongoing to see his involvement with a terrorist network. The suspect is an illegal rifle trader," Handoko said here.
After arresting AR, Densus 88 officials conducted a search at his home on Sunan Ampel Street, Putukrejo village, Malang from 10.30 p.m. Wednesday (April 21, 2021) to 2.30 a.m. on Thursday and seized some evidence, he informed.
The evidence would be used in the criminal investigation process, which is being carried out at the East Java Police Headquarters, he added.
In March this year, Densus 88 had arrested two terror suspects in the districts of Tulungagung and Nganjuk, East Java province.
One suspect, identified as NMR, was nabbed in Tulungagung and another, identified as LAM, was apprehended in Nganjuk. Police also seized two homemade weapons and a book from them.
"We have been informed that the two suspected terrorists belong to the banned radical organization Jamaah Asharut Daulah," Handoko said, adding that the suspects have been linked to the perpetrators of the suicide bombing outside cathedral church in South Sulawesi’s Makassar city on March 28, 2021.
