The 8th stage (of PPKM will extend) from May 18 to May 31. It will cover 30 provinces, not 34 provinces, based on the parameters
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has decided to extend micro-level community activity restrictions (PPKM) in 30 provinces from May 18 to May 31, 2021.

"The 8th stage (of PPKM will extend) from May 18 to May 31. It will cover 30 provinces, not 34 provinces, based on the parameters," secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Susiwijono Moegiarso, said here on Monday.

The four provinces of Maluku, West Sulawesi, North Maluku, and Gorontalo will be excluded from the 8th PPKM as their determining indicators are still below the threshold for PPKM implementation, he explained.

"The indicators are still very low; hence, we decided only 30 provinces will be included (in PPKM implementation)," he said.

The micro-level restrictions have also covered tourist destinations during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Tourist spots located in red zones (where virus transmission risk is high) have not been allowed to open, while those located in yellow and green zones have been permitted to operate under stringent health protocols, he informed.

"Further mechanism would be handled by regional task forces and respective administrations because they would know better which areas are in the red or yellow zones, which areas bear the high risk (of COVID-19 spread)," he added.

According to data provided by the COVID-19 task force, public mobility in tourist destinations increased 38.42 percent during the Eid holiday from May 12-May 15, 2021, compared to May 5-8. The number of tourists also jumped 100.8 percent during May 14-15 compared to May 7-8. (INE)
