Jakarta (ANTARA) - Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah has encouraged and supported women to don a broader role in the endeavors to revive and recover the sluggish economy owing to the impacts of COVID-19.

"Women are a very important and strategic element of the nation not only due to their large numbers but also since they have great potential to move the economy," Fauziyah stated in her opening remarks during a virtual Youth Talent Creative Class event held by the Ministry of Manpower here on Friday.

The minister praised Indonesian women for being tough and tirelessly contributing to progress in various sectors of the economy. Scores of talented females have emerged as pioneers of the economic movement, she pointed out.

Women have also been active in bringing about various breakthroughs in their works, Fauziyah noted.

The Ministry of Manpower has prioritized developing the potential and talents of Indonesian women, as manpower development should be conducted in an inclusive manner.

Inclusive manpower development can be conducted by offering opportunities and encouraging women to boost their creative potential and competence to enable them to play a bigger role in driving the economy, both as workers and entrepreneurs.

"Economic hardships are being faced today, and nearly every sector is experiencing sluggishness due to this pandemic. Women must emerge as the economic generators based on the people's economic potential," Fauziyah stressed.
