Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has outlined a target for the COVID-19 vaccine to be administered to 100 thousand players in the financial services sector to expedite the formation of herd immunity.

"Later, the target this week is approximately 100 thousand (vaccine recipients). We are doing this in order to accelerate vaccination," President Jokowi remarked while witnessing mass vaccinations for financial services sector players at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

President Jokowi remarked that for today, vaccination for those in the financial services industry sector was conducted for 10 thousand participants.

Apart from GBK DKI Jakarta, the head of state noted that COVID-19 vaccinations for the financial services sector were also conducted in various provinces of the country.

"We are optimistic that this acceleration will reduce the spread of COVID-19. This morning, all mass vaccinations were conducted not only in Jakarta but also in all provinces in the financial services sector,” he stated.

The president also held a dialog with financial service industry players undergoing COVID-19 vaccination in various regions.

After the dialog, the president stated that expediting vaccination of financial service industry players is projected to fasten the formation of herd immunity no later than August 2021.

"I am upbeat that all regions would be able to re-manufacture and boost their vaccinations, so that inoculations in the financial services sector will be sped up to immediately achieve herd immunity at least in August," the president remarked.

Apart from the financial services industry sector, COVID-19 vaccination will also be accelerated for players of other sectors.

“We hope that vaccination would be accelerated for those engaged in other sectors. Thus, we can stop COVID-19 transmission as soon as possible," he emphasized.

The head of state has also outlined a target for vaccine injections, in general, to reach one million doses per day in early July 2021, increasing from the earlier 500 thousand doses per day.

"Through this acceleration, we are optimistic of reducing the spread of COVID-19," he noted.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority Wimboh Santoso, and President Director of the Indonesia Stock Exchange Inarno Djajadi accompanied the president during the visit.
