This is a positive step for Gojek or AirAsia to be able to develop their business lines in Thailand and ASEANJakarta (ANTARA) - Center of Innovation and Digital Economy Indef researcher Nailul Huda gauged that the Gojek-AirAsia Group collaboration would positively impact development of business lines of the super apps on demand in the Thai and ASEAN markets.
Huda noted that business lines, such as online transportation as well as logistics and e-commerce services, developed by each company, will continue to grow in future.
"This is a positive step for Gojek or AirAsia to be able to develop their business lines in Thailand and ASEAN. This collaboration with AirAsia will further strengthen Gojek's business, so that it can continue its expansion, not only in Thailand but also in other ASEAN countries," Huda remarked in Jakarta, Monday.
Huda stated that Gojek's new collaboration with the AirAsia Group, after earlier forming GoTo with Tokopedia, was strategic for Gojek in facing stiff competition in the online transportation and food delivery services sector, especially with Grab.
Meanwhile, Huda believes that Gojek's decision to encourage expansion to Singapore and Vietnam will also have a major impact on Gojek or for Indonesia, in general.
One of the positive outcomes is the increase in Gojek's valuation in line with the growing market share in the Southeast Asian market.
"Investment of technology companies from Indonesia is also increasing along with development of the market share of national technology companies in the regional arena. This will also be very positive," he noted.
Earlier, the AirAsia Group, through its subsidiary, AirAsia Digital, had announced to take over Gojek's operations in Thailand. As part of the collaboration, Gojek will become a shareholder in the AirAsia Group's AirAsia super app.
AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tony Fernandes also called the collaboration with Gojek, the most valuable technology company in Southeast Asia, a dream come true.
"Gojek is one of my inspirations, the only unicorn in Southeast Asia that I respect. More importantly, this is the support of one of the smartest technology companies in Southeast Asia," the CEO noted as quoted from the LinkedIn social media page, Tony Fernandes.
Gojek CEO Kevin Aluwi believes this agreement is a testament to the achievements of the Gojek team in Thailand, which has developed a business from scratch to become a service provider that simplifies the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.
"This business was successfully built due to extraordinary talent and passion. After this partnership, all Gojek employees in Thailand will continue to work with AirAsia in the transition period," he stated.
