Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Metro Jaya Police's Traffic Directorate has stationed 350 traffic police officers to guard roads around the State Palace, as some people plan to stage a protest against the implementation of public activity restrictions (PPKM).

"There are 350 personnel (deployed)," Jakarta Police's Traffic Director Senior Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo confirmed here on Saturday.

Possible road closures and traffic redistribution will be conducted based on situational conditions on the ground, according to Yogo.

"At present, there are no flow diversions. Currently, the PPKM level 4 blocking is still underway at Sudirman-Thamrin," he noted.

Posters, calling the public to join a long march from Glodok to the State Place to express rejection of the PPKM, had become viral lately.

The Jakarta Police has appealed to the public to not partake in a protest on the streets to express their objection to PPKM.

"We appeal to our friends and relatives, looking to be part of crowd activities, to convey their opinions wisely. Please send representatives, and we will solve the matter wisely," spokesman of the Jakarta Police Senior Commissioner Yusri Yunus stressed recently.

The Jakarta Police will be willing to accommodate the opinions of parties keen to express their views in order to prevent crowding that could potentially lead to new clusters of COVID-19, he remarked.

"If you want to express your opinion, approach the Metro Regional Police or other relevant agencies. We will accept them wisely, so that we can avoid crowds. Thus, they would not create clusters again," he stated.

Crowds would trigger a further spike in the number of COVID-cases, while hospitals and cemeteries are full, he noted.
